Four-time PGA Tour winner Harris English has withdrawn from the 2024 Wyndham Championship due to a back injury. The 35-year-old golfer pulled out of the tournament shortly before his scheduled first-round tee time, where he was set to play alongside Kevin Kisner and Daniel Berger. His spot in the field was subsequently filled by Kevin Tway.
The Wyndham Championship, held in Greensboro, faced multiple weather-related delays. The start of the tournament was postponed on Thursday due to severe weather, and another three hours of play were lost on Friday morning. However, play resumed just before lunchtime on Friday. PGA Tour officials are now working to complete the first round by Saturday morning, with hopes of finishing the second round by Saturday night. If necessary, they are prepared to extend the tournament into a 36-hole final on Sunday. A Monday finish remains a possibility, though it is not preferred, as the first event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is set to begin next week.
English, who last won on the PGA Tour at the 2021 Travelers Championship, has struggled with form this season, recording only two top-10 finishes in 2024. His recent challenges have caused his world ranking to drop to 60th, a significant fall from his career-high ranking of 10th.
English made his debut on the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2021, contributing to the team’s record-breaking 19-9 victory over Europe at Whistling Straits, where he earned one point from three matches.
