Morgan Pressel, a commentator for the LPGA Tour and former professional golfer, has issued an apology for her language during the third round of the Women’s Olympic Golf Tournament. The incident occurred while Pressel was commenting on a crucial moment when Canada’s Brooke Henderson holed a birdie putt. In her excitement, Pressel appeared to accidentally use inappropriate language on air.
Pressel, who was once the youngest player to win a modern LPGA major, slipped up when she enthusiastically described Henderson’s reaction. “Yeah, let’s give Brittany a little fist pump,” Pressel said during the live broadcast. “She is f—ing fired up! You love to see it.”
Realizing the error, Pressel quickly apologized to the audience. In a statement, she expressed her regret, explaining that she had stumbled over her words, which led to the unintentional expletive. “I just want to take a moment to acknowledge something that I said during the broadcast,” Pressel said. “I stumbled over my words and unfortunately it sounded as if I said something inappropriate, and I am so sorry that it came across as such because I would never say that on the air in a broadcast.”
Despite the slip, many golf fans appreciated Pressel’s passion during the coverage. Henderson, who was the focus of Pressel’s excitement, ultimately finished tied for 13th place in the competition. The gold medal was claimed by New Zealand’s Lydia Ko.
Pressel’s commentary career began in 2021 after a successful playing career, where she made history by becoming the youngest player to win a modern LPGA major at the age of 18 when she captured the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2007. However, despite her early success, Pressel only won two LPGA Tour titles, with her second victory coming at the 2008 Kapalua LPGA Classic.
