Grayson Murray, a professional golfer, tragically passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning. His death was confirmed this past weekend, with his grieving parents paying tribute, saying he was “loved and will be missed.”
According to the report, police responded to a call at Murray’s Florida residence around 10:30 am on Saturday morning. He lived there with his fiancée. His body was discovered less than 24 hours after he withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. Murray had left the course during the second round on Friday, citing illness after completing 16 holes.
Murray, 30, had been open about his struggles with alcohol and mental health. Last year, he regained his place on the PGA Tour and had been working towards sobriety.
In a heartfelt statement, his family expressed their devastation over his loss. “We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone,” they said. “It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but also acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare.”
They continued, “We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed.”
The family thanked the PGA Tour and the golfing community for their support. “Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”
They requested privacy as they navigate this tragic loss and urged others to honor Grayson by showing kindness to one another. “If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else. Thank you.”
