Despite mounting pressure and calls for change, head coach Matt LaFleur is standing by defensive coordinator Joe Berry. LaFleur, however, didn’t absolve anyone from blame, acknowledging the coaching and communication breakdowns that plagued the team.
LaFleur commented on the poor communication issues, stating, “When you’re having basic communication problems and you’re supposed to be in a certain coverage or a certain rotation and we’re not getting that communication, that’s what’s so disappointing to me.” He emphasized that accountability starts with him and extends to all assistant coaches.
The defensive struggles were evident on Sunday as they allowed Baker Mayfield to dominate, throwing for 381 yards and 4 touchdowns with a completion rate over 75%. While facing a formidable Buccaneers offense, the extent of the defensive lapses raised concerns, given the investments made in the Green Bay defense.

Ironically, the defensive struggles coincide with first-year starting quarterback Jordan Love’s commendable performances in recent weeks. The team’s playoff prospects would have been more secure had Love showcased this level of play earlier in the season.
With a favorable schedule ahead, facing Carolina and Minnesota on the road followed by a home game against the Bears, the Packers must secure victories in all three to revive their playoff hopes.
