Life has changed dramatically for the MacIntyre family. Dougie MacIntyre, once content to watch his son Bob play golf from the sidelines, now finds himself in the spotlight, even being asked for selfies by strangers. Dougie, the head greenkeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club in their hometown of Oban, gained fame after being on Bob’s bag during his breakthrough win at the RBC Canadian Open and his subsequent victory at the Genesis Scottish Open.
Bob MacIntyre’s profile has soared, placing him among the top 20 golfers in the world. His performance at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon, where he joined golfing giants like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the media spotlight, showcased his rising star status. Handling the press and a string of interviews with ease, MacIntyre reflected on the whirlwind of fame that now surrounds him.
The 27-year-old golfer, who has put Oban on the map, emphasized the need for a family and team discussion to navigate his newfound fame. Supported by his parents, sisters, and the family’s foster child, Dan, MacIntyre acknowledged the challenges of increased attention, especially after the Scottish Open. He noted the importance of safety and the adjustments his family must make to adapt to their new reality.
After a brief break, MacIntyre will head back to the US for the Wyndham Championship, followed by the FedEx Cup Play-Offs, where he currently sits 17th in the standings. His schedule also includes major DP World Tour events, with a goal to break into the world’s top ten.
With a dedicated support team, including his manager Iain Stoddart, coach Simon Shanks, and others, MacIntyre remains committed to his golf career. His girlfriend, Shannon Hartley, also plays a significant role in his life off the course. Aiming to be the best player he can be, MacIntyre aspires to win majors and perhaps one day become the world number one, acknowledging that his journey in golf is far from over.
