Jessica Pegula recently participated in a lighthearted Q&A session on her social media, offering some entertaining insights about her fellow players on the WTA tour, including Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, Emma Navarro, and Madison Keys. The World No. 4 has been on a remarkable run lately, winning 18 of her last 22 matches, a streak that began with her triumph at the Canadian Open in August. Pegula also finished as the runner-up at both the US Open and the Cincinnati Open, and she has successfully qualified for the prestigious WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
On October 15, Pegula engaged with her fans on Instagram, where she responded to a variety of questions. One fan referenced a previous comment from Coco Gauff about Pegula’s “brutal honesty,” to which Pegula humorously responded, “I don’t think I wanna know the answer @cocogauff 🤣.”
She also spoke fondly of fellow American Emma Navarro, whom she described as “very funny.” When asked about her head-to-head record with World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, Pegula admitted Sabalenka had the upper hand, replying, “It’s been mostly Aryna.”
During the Q&A, Pegula revisited the topic of the balls used on the WTA Tour. Though she had criticized the ‘lighter balls’ earlier in the year, her response this time was more relaxed. She also shared a playful exchange with her good friend Madison Keys, tagging her in a story about the balls. Pegula joked, “I feel exposed. Don’t think I like any, just ask @madisonkeys.” Keys responded with, “‘I hate this ball’, wins tournament,” poking fun at Pegula’s previous complaints.
Looking ahead, Pegula expressed her excitement about qualifying for the WTA Finals for the third consecutive year. She recently posted about it on social media, referencing a quote from the TV show New Girl, writing, “New girl reference is unmatched. Excited to be back at the year-end championships!” Last year, Pegula made it to the final match of the WTA Finals in Cancun but was defeated by World No. 1 Iga Świątek in a one-sided contest, 1-6, 0-6.
In 2024, Pegula is enjoying one of her best seasons yet on the WTA Tour. With a 38-18 win-loss record and titles at both the ecotrans Ladies Open and the Canadian Open, she has firmly established herself as one of the top players in women’s tennis.
