Iga Swiatek witnessed a season of ups and downs in 2024. She started the year as the no.1 but couldn’t stay consistent with her performances across multiple events. Although she won a Major trophy at the Roland Garros, her appearance at other tournaments like the Wimbledon and the US Open didn’t live up to expectations. She then took a long period off tennis while also parting ways with her former coach Tomasz Wiktorowski. After announcing her new partnership with trainer Wim Fissette, she came back at the WTA Finals. Unfortunately, the former world no.1 couldn’t do much in Riyadh; despite a good show, she was eliminated in the group stage. Her professional career’s unpredictable trajectory in 2024 has made one reputed tennis insider highly concerned – and he wants to know if there’s something else preventing Swiatek from playing at her full potential.

Renowned Polish journalist Bogdan Rymanowski expressed his inner thoughts on Iga Swiatek while commenting on her form. Speaking on the program ‘Two Armchairs’, as reported by Sport.pl, dated November 22nd, Bogdan revealed he’s personally curious to know what’s stopping Swiatek from delivering her best. According to him, there seems to be an invisible mental pressure on the Polish tennis sensation that eventually affects her performance. “I was thinking about talking to Iga Świątek. It seems to me that if she opened, if this pressure fell, if she felt securely and this conversation looked a bit like a couch at a psychotherapist, it would be a phenomenal conversation. I would like to know what is in Iga, what sometimes blocks her,” he said.

Rymanowski admitted that Iga is a brilliant sportswoman “but I think there is still a blockade. Is this a physical blockage? Is this a mental block? Is it psychic? I don’t know,” he concluded. For those unaware, Swiatek also participated in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals earlier this week after the WTA Finals. Although she fought hard and delivered her best in singles, her country couldn’t make it to the final battle. Poland lost against Italy in the SF round. Now that the season is completely over for her, Swiatek is trying to find peace within by enjoying her holiday period. What’s done is done and her only goal now is to look forward.

Iga Swiatek reflects on her 2024 journey while shifting focus on the next season
The Pole took to her Instagram and shared a post, dated November 22nd, while summing up her season. “🙏🏻 Thanks for this season. First and foremost I’m thanking myself and my team because it was another extraordinary year. It was the season of not being a superhero and accepting it, facing new challenges, grinding, hard work, appreciating milestones and unlocking new achievements,” she wrote.
Although she couldn’t stay consistent throughout the year, Swiatek mentioned that she was still satisfied. “I finish this year with huge satisfaction and pride of my grit, strength and everything that I’ve done and achieved which says more than any words. It’s time to rest and reset. My body and mind need that. Thank you to every kind and supportive human being who is by my side in this journey. See you soon,” she concluded.
All things considered, she will end this season as No.2. Swiatek would like to make a solid impression when she steps on the court next year at the Australian Open. Although she couldn’t move past the third round at the event in 2024, the five-time Grand Slam champion will try to do better and push her total tally to six this time.
