LIV golfer Sergio Garcia remains optimistic about adding another major title to his career achievements. Despite being well into his career and having only one major title so far—the 2017 Masters—the Spanish golfer feels that his recent performances prove he still has the potential to contend at the highest level. Garcia, who has been taking a short break following the conclusion of LIV Golf’s third season, shared his thoughts on his 2024 season and major aspirations in an interview with Golf Monthly.
Reflecting on his form this year, Garcia expressed his continued drive to compete in major tournaments:
> “The way I’ve been playing, it gives me the feeling that I’m not done in that aspect. I will give myself chances, and then it comes down to little things here and there, but I still feel like I can give myself chances.”
Garcia turned professional in 1999 and has had an impressive career across both the PGA and European Tours before joining LIV Golf. After some challenges on the LIV circuit, particularly during his first two seasons, he found a breakthrough in 2024, finishing third in the season standings. He also competed in two major tournaments in 2024, where he missed the cut at the Masters but delivered a strong T12 finish at The Open Championship.
In his interview with Golf Monthly, Garcia shared insights into his mindset and early expectations for his career, reminiscing on the goals he had as a young player. When he started, Garcia hoped to secure multiple major championships, potentially between five and ten. Looking back, he acknowledged the realities of the competitive landscape and the challenges he faced along the way:
> “When you’re young, you have no fears and you think that you can take on the world and nobody’s gonna beat you. But unfortunately, that’s not the truth. I would probably have thought that I’d win between five and 10 [Majors], I would have hoped, but it hasn’t happened as many as I’d liked. I had my chances.”
Garcia’s professional career is marked by 37 victories worldwide, with 11 wins on the PGA Tour and 16 on the European Tour. In 2024, he achieved a milestone on the LIV circuit by winning his first event at Andalucia and securing three runner-up finishes in tournaments held in Mayakoba, Miami, and Chicago. This resurgence has only strengthened his resolve, and he is hopeful that his experience and renewed form can lead to another major championship win in the coming years.
