Jack Nicklaus remains confident in Rory McIlroy’s potential to win more Major titles, despite the golfer’s prolonged Major drought since his victory at the 2014 PGA Championship. Reflecting on his earlier prediction that McIlroy could amass up to 15 Majors, Nicklaus told Tom Lerner from the Golf Channel, “I’m a big Rory fan. He’s a good guy and a wonderful player with a great golf swing. I just don’t know where he loses it sometimes, but he seems to struggle with maintaining focus throughout a round.”
Frank Nobilo, another analyst, echoed Nicklaus’s sentiments, noting McIlroy’s inconsistent performance. “There’s like two Rorys today. His bad, even he would admit, is terrible, but his good is better than anybody else,” Nobilo observed.
Nicklaus also praised Scottie Scheffler’s outstanding form this season, highlighted by his Masters win and dominance in the PGA Tour’s Signature Events. Nicklaus admires Scheffler’s composure under pressure and consistent excellence. “Scheffler is fantastic. He brings new energy to the game and plays brilliantly week after week, something not seen in a long time,” Nicklaus said. He commended Scheffler for avoiding “dumb mistakes” and playing at a consistently high level without appearing sensational.
