During the latest episode of the “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce” podcast, Jason Kelce discussed Hurts’ expanded duties starting with Philadelphia’s regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers, which will take place in Brazil on Friday.
Questions about Hurts’ leadership style arose after the 2023 Eagles, who started the season 10-1, finished at 11-6 before suffering a humbling 32-9 wild-card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Subsequent reports over the summer hinted at a potentially “fractured” and unhealthy relationship between Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni.
Regardless of the accuracy of these rumors, it appears that new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and new quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier will now be the primary voices guiding Hurts as he takes command of Philadelphia’s offense in the post-Kelce era. Moore and Nussmeier spent time in the offseason preparing Hurts for his new responsibilities.
Both Moore and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick could emerge as potential candidates to replace Sirianni if the Eagles struggle early in the season. As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Philadelphia listed as a two-point favorite for Friday’s matchup against Green Bay.
