John Daly, the two-time major golf champion, revealed to the PGA Tour that his Florida home was completely destroyed by Hurricane Helene, a powerful category-4 storm that struck much of the southeastern United States last week. Daly’s residence, located in Clearwater, Florida, was one of many properties severely affected by the hurricane.
The 58-year-old golfer confirmed the news on Wednesday in an interview with the PGA Tour’s Paul Hodowanic, describing the storm as “devastating” and the worst natural disaster he had ever experienced. “I’ve seen hurricanes living in Florida, but I’ve never seen one hit this hard,” Daly said. “I’m just glad everyone is healthy. That’s the main thing.”
Daly, who maintains his primary residence in Arkansas, noted that in addition to his Florida home, three other houses belonging to family members and friends in the Clearwater area were also lost to the storm. The damage from Hurricane Helene was widespread, leaving millions without power and causing immense destruction in communities throughout the region.
As of the latest reports, over 180 people have been confirmed dead as a result of the hurricane, and hundreds remain missing. The storm’s impact continues to be felt, with rescue efforts ongoing and thousands of residents displaced.
Reflecting on the devastation, Daly expressed empathy for others who were affected by the storm. “I hope everyone gets safe and can rebuild their homes,” he said. “My heart goes out to everybody dealing with this tragedy.”
Despite the personal losses he has suffered, Daly remains focused on his professional obligations. He is currently participating in this week’s Champions Tour event in Jacksonville, Florida, showing his resilience in the face of adversity.
