The 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 will be missing one of golf’s brightest stars, as Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the tournament due to a foot injury. This injury, which also forced Rahm to skip the LIV Golf event in Houston just a week earlier, has been a significant setback for the former world No. 1.
On Tuesday, Rahm addressed the media, including Shane Ryan from Golf Digest, who inquired about Rahm’s mental state amid a challenging period plagued by a foot infection. Rahm, however, appeared to be less than enthusiastic about the question and took the opportunity to express his frustration with the portrayal of his recent performance.
“Yeah, I’m in a happy place,” Rahm asserted. “It’s not like I’ve been playing bad, even though a lot of you make it sound like I’m playing bad. I had two bad weeks.”
Despite currently holding the eighth spot in the official world golf rankings, Rahm’s recent major tournament performances have been less than stellar. He finished tied for 45th at the Masters in April and failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship in May.
Rahm’s absence from the U.S. Open is a significant loss for the tournament, as fans and fellow competitors alike were looking forward to seeing the Spaniard’s powerful game in action. His focus now will likely shift to recovery and preparation for upcoming tournaments, as he aims to regain his form and continue his pursuit of golf’s most prestigious titles.
