Jon Rahm and his wife, Kelley, have welcomed the birth of their third child and first daughter, just ahead of Rahm’s return to the DP World Tour at the Open de España this week. The news, first confirmed by Marca, comes as Rahm prepares to compete in his home country.
The couple, who already have two sons—Kepa, 3, and Eneko, 2—celebrated the arrival of their daughter shortly before Rahm flew from Arizona to Madrid on Tuesday. While the birth caused Rahm, 29, to withdraw from the Pro-Am event on the eve of the tournament, he is now set to compete in Thursday’s opening round.
Rahm will be looking to secure his fourth victory at the Open de España, having previously claimed the title in 2018, 2019, and 2022. His golfing idol, the legendary Seve Ballesteros, won the tournament three times as well, in 1981, 1985, and 1995. However, the record for most victories in the event belongs to Ángel de la Torre, who won five times between 1916 and 1925, though it only became part of the European Tour in 1972.
Earlier last weekend, Rahm also withdrew from LIV Golf’s season-ending Team Championship in Dallas due to illness, reportedly flu-like symptoms. His spot was filled by John Catlin, with Rahm’s team, Legion XIII, finishing fourth. Despite this, Rahm had already achieved an individual victory in his debut season with LIV Golf.
Rahm’s decision to join LIV Golf on a five-year deal, reportedly worth $600 million, extends his involvement with the tour through 2028. However, his return to the DP World Tour, especially at the Open de España, is highly anticipated by his Spanish fans.
The former World No. 1, who has 10 DP World Tour titles to his name, will tee off at 2:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, alongside Matthieu Pavon and Sepp Straka. His second round is scheduled for 9:10 a.m. on Friday. The players will be competing for a first-place prize of just over $500,000.
