Jon Rahm secured his first LIV Golf victory at the JCB Golf & Country Club in Staffordshire on Sunday. Starting the day three shots behind leader Andy Ogletree, Rahm shot a final round of 67 to finish 13-under-par, edging out Tyrrell Hatton by a single stroke.
The 29-year-old Spaniard, who joined LIV Golf from the PGA Tour in December for a reported £450 million, had faced a challenging season. Despite finishing in the top 10 in nine out of ten events, a foot injury had previously forced him to withdraw from a tournament in Houston.
This victory marks Rahm’s first win of the year, earning him the £3.1 million top prize. Additionally, his team, Legion XIII, won the team competition, securing a quarter share of the £1.2 million team prize.
Reflecting on his win, Rahm praised Hatton and expressed relief over his victory, mentioning personal challenges he and his family had faced throughout the year. He also shared that his son’s encouragement had been a significant motivator.
Looking ahead, Rahm will represent Spain at the Olympics in Paris alongside David Puig. He believes this win provides the confidence boost needed as he aims for a gold medal.
Rahm commented, “Getting over the hill and getting over the hump gave me a little bit of extra confidence. I’m really looking forward to sharing the week with David, and hopefully one of us can get the gold.”
