Jon Rahm has committed to his fourth DP World Tour event of the season by entering the Andalucía Masters, ensuring he retains his membership with the Wentworth-based circuit and remains eligible for the Ryder Cup for another year.
Rahm’s status with the European Ryder Cup team has been uncertain in recent months. After joining LIV Golf late last year, there were concerns that the Spanish golfer might lose his DP World Tour membership, which requires players to compete in four events annually. This membership is essential for European players who wish to compete in the Ryder Cup, as they must be part of the DP World Tour.
Despite committing to LIV Golf for the 2024 season, Rahm had not appeared in any DP World Tour events until the Paris Olympic Games, which was co-sanctioned by the European circuit. This gave him one of the four starts required to remain eligible for next year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. However, he still needed to complete three more events, and there were concerns about his ability to meet this requirement.
In addition to being fined and suspended by the DP World Tour for participating in LIV events without permission, Rahm’s personal life, including the pregnancy of his wife Kelley, further complicated his schedule. Tour rules require players to settle any fines and complete any outstanding suspensions before regaining full eligibility.
Rahm has been vocal in his opposition to the fines, stating during LIV Chicago in September, “I’m not a big fan of the fines. I think I’ve been outspoken about that. I don’t plan to pay the fines, and we keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen.” Despite this, Rahm has now taken the necessary steps to ensure his eligibility for the DP World Tour and the Ryder Cup by entering additional events.
