Nelly Korda triumphed in a dramatic back-nine duel against Australia’s Hannah Green, clinching the Mizuho Americas Open by a single stroke with a decisive par on the 18th hole. This victory marks Korda’s sixth win in seven LPGA Tour starts this year.
The 25-year-old’s win also establishes her as the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to secure six victories in a single season. Korda’s remarkable season saw her rebound after her record-tying five-tournament winning streak was halted last week by Rose Zhang at the Cognizant Founders Cup. Zhang, unfortunately, had to withdraw from the Mizuho Americas Open on Thursday due to an intestinal issue after just three holes.
Korda, after a challenging front nine at 2-over, maintained a tight race with Green by matching birdies on the 10th, 13th, and 15th holes at Liberty National Golf Club. These two wins this year distinguish her as the only other multiple winner on the tour this season.
Canadian Maude-Aimee Leblanc from Sherbrooke, Quebec, ended tied for 47th at 1-under, while Brooke Henderson from Smiths Falls, Ontario, finished tied for 56th at 3-over.
In the final hole drama, Korda placed her drive in the fairway of the par-4 18th, while Green’s drive veered into the left rough. Green’s second shot fell short of the green and remained in the rough. Korda then positioned her approach shot 15 feet from the hole. Green’s chip over a bunker landed 10 feet from the hole but rolled back slightly. Korda confidently putted to tap-in range and completed her round, while Green’s putt to force a playoff missed the hole.
Korda’s consistency and skill were on full display, sealing yet another impressive victory in her already stellar season.
