Caleb Surratt, a promising 20-year-old golfer and the youngest participant in the LIV Golf League, is set to make his debut in the International Series Morocco this week. The rising star, who has already secured three team titles with Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII, is currently ranked 37th in the player standings. With only four events left in the season, Surratt faces the challenge of maintaining his position to avoid relegation from the league.
The LIV Golf League’s rules stipulate that players who finish 45th or below in the standings, and are not team captains, face relegation. These players cannot be re-signed by another team unless they reclaim their spot by competing successfully in the LIV Golf Promotions event. Although Surratt is currently above the relegation zone, he is determined to solidify his future in the league.
Surratt will compete in the International Series at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam’s Red Course in Rabat from July 4-7. This tournament is the third of ten events on the Asian Tour, which offers a direct pathway to the LIV Golf League. It also provides current LIV Golf players an opportunity to refine their game while competing for significant prize money, with a $2 million prize fund available this weekend.
A former standout at the University of Tennessee, Surratt will use the four days in Rabat to prepare for the upcoming LIV Golf Andalucia event in Spain. “I am excited,” Surratt said. “It is a privilege to play in Morocco as I have never been there before. In fact, I haven’t traveled abroad much at all, so I am really looking forward to this experience and will do my best to prepare. I have heard nothing but great things about the International Series and the golf course in Morocco, and I am excited to make my debut there.”
Reflecting on the competition, Surratt acknowledged the high caliber of players that the Asian Tour produces. “The best players will always rise to the top, and it’s impressive to see the talent the Asian Tour has nurtured,” he said. “You can’t fake it. They are clearly doing something right.”
Surratt also highlighted the challenges of international competition, emphasizing the importance of adapting to different countries. “Part of the experience is learning how to travel, as moving from country to country is more complex than traveling between states. This is a key aspect of the International Series, and I am eager to embrace it,” he said. “The players on this tour know how to adapt, and I am excited to learn from them.”
Under the guidance of his team captain and two-time major champion Jon Rahm, Surratt values the opportunity to gain experience early in his career. “Being able to come straight from college and work closely with Jon Rahm every day is invaluable for my learning,” Surratt noted. “It’s great to become comfortable around him because if you can compete and feel at ease with Jon, you can compete with anyone.”
Surratt’s journey in Morocco and his efforts to secure his place in the LIV Golf League will be closely watched as he strives to avoid relegation and continue his promising career.
