LIV Golf’s Ian Poulter is set to compete in the Saudi-backed circuit’s upcoming event in Texas, but he currently faces an unexpected challenge: he doesn’t have his golf clubs.
The English golfer recently flew from Heathrow Airport to Texas, only to find out mid-flight that his clubs had not traveled with him. British Airways sent an email to Poulter stating, “to inform you that a bag has not traveled with you today,” and advised him to contact them to arrange for the delivery of his clubs.
Frustrated, Poulter took to Instagram to express his disappointment. “FFS @british_airways so disappointing,” wrote Poulter. “I checked in 2 hours 30 minutes before the flight. What could possibly be the excuse. Just received the email 3 hours into the flight. I wouldn’t have bothered flying if you’re not sending my golf clubs. Can’t swing fresh air.”
In a separate post, Poulter continued to voice his irritation, stating, “Talk about pi**ed off @british_airways. The golf bag wasn’t overweight. I took it to oversize and scanned it and watched it go down the belt. #Pathetic,” according to the Daily Mail.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of mishandled golf clubs during air travel. Not long ago, the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s golf team also faced a similar situation when their clubs were misplaced during a flight.
As Poulter awaits the return of his equipment, the golfing world watches to see how British Airways will resolve this issue and ensure he has the tools needed to compete in Texas.
