The PGA of America has made a significant decision, confirming that golfers from the LIV Golf League will be eligible to compete in future Ryder Cups and the PGA Championship, provided they qualify or are selected by the team captain. This ruling applies to next year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage, where LIV golfers like Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka could potentially participate if they earn a spot or are picked by U.S. captain Keegan Bradley.
In an official statement, the PGA of America explained that LIV Golf players will be offered membership, similar to the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and nine other international circuits. This ensures that the U.S. Ryder Cup team will have access to the top American players.
The PGA’s decision follows recent precedents, such as in 2023 when LIV golfer Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship for the third time and was later selected for the U.S. Ryder Cup team in Rome. The statement reinforced that “LIV Golf players are eligible for the PGA Championship, and any American player who qualifies for the Ryder Cup on points or is chosen as a captain’s pick is eligible to compete.”
Captain Keegan Bradley has previously expressed openness to including LIV players on his team. He stated, “I’m going to have the best 12 players at Bethpage, so the PGA of America needs to figure that out. If those guys are in contention for the team, we’ll make sure they’re members.”
This decision marks a continuation of the PGA’s approach over the past two years, emphasizing inclusion for LIV players in major competitions.
