McIlroy files for divorce in week of US PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy, the renowned golfer, has recently made headlines by filing for divorce from his wife, Erica, during the week of the US PGA Championship in Kentucky. The court records from Palm Beach County in Florida indicate that McIlroy submitted a “petition for dissolution of marriage” on Monday. The couple tied the knot in 2017 and shares one child, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, born in 2020. Their relationship began in 2012 when Erica was working for the PGA of America at the Ryder Cup. McIlroy credited her with aiding him in getting a police escort to the course after misinterpreting his tee time for the Sunday singles. Despite the tight schedule, McIlroy managed to make it to the course just in time and went on to secure a victory against Keegan Bradley, contributing to Europe’s remarkable comeback in the ‘Miracle at Medinah.’
