Rising Swedish golf star Ludvig Aberg is making headlines at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, but his girlfriend, Olivia Peet, is also attracting attention. Aberg, 24, a former Texas Tech University standout, is currently ranked sixth in the world, despite having less than two full seasons on the PGA Tour. He has already secured four professional victories and recently finished second at The Masters.
Aberg has taken a one-shot lead into the weekend at Pinehurst No. 2 after impressive rounds of 66 and 69, putting him at 5-under. He is ahead of notable players like Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, and Belgian golfer Thomas Detry.
While Aberg’s golfing prowess is noteworthy, Peet is also in the spotlight. The couple, who met at Texas Tech, have been together for several years. Peet, originally from England, competed on the university’s tennis team and has an athletic background, with her father, Chris Peet, being a former professional tennis player.
Despite her plans to pursue a professional tennis career, Peet’s college singles record of 73-57 suggests she might explore other opportunities. Regardless, her relationship with Aberg appears to be a significant part of her life.
Aberg is currently sixth on the 2024 PGA Tour money list, with earnings exceeding $7 million. He recently declined a lucrative offer from the LIV Golf series, citing his passion for competition as his main reason.
“I want to play against the best because I am a competitive person and like to compete against the best players,” Aberg stated. “Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that at the moment; it’s a bit more fragmented. When I look at the PGA Tour and the competitions there, there is so much history around all the competitions. And that’s what I like, that’s what I go for. But then you have to respect everyone’s decisions.”
