Keegan Bradley, the newly appointed United States Ryder Cup captain, has expressed his willingness to attend LIV Golf events to ensure the selection of the best 12 golfers for the American team in next year’s match. During a press conference in New York, the 38-year-old top-20 player revealed his surprise at being chosen for the role after Tiger Woods declined the position due to his commitments on the PGA Tour’s policy board and ongoing negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Bradley, who aims to qualify for the team he will lead at Bethpage Black in September 2025, narrowly missed automatic selection for last year’s Ryder Cup in Rome and was disappointed when he was not picked as a wildcard by former captain Zach Johnson. His selection as captain only came after Woods turned down the offer, citing an overloaded schedule.
Unlike Johnson, who largely ignored LIV Golf players except for Brooks Koepka, Bradley is open to considering all players, regardless of where they play. He emphasized his focus on assembling the strongest team possible to win the tournament, stating, “I want the 12 best players and I don’t care where they play.”
Bradley believes he still has the skills to qualify for the team, expressing confidence in his current form and connection with his peers on the tour. He is honored to have been chosen by his colleagues and feels his familiarity with the players and the course at Bethpage Black will be advantageous.
The PGA of America approached Bradley after Woods declined the captaincy. Bradley expressed his surprise and honor at being selected, particularly given his disappointment at not being picked for the team last year. He was chosen over other notable candidates like Stewart Cink, Fred Couples, Steve Stricker, and Davis Love III.
PGA of America president John Lindert explained that Bradley’s credentials, including his status as a PGA champion and familiarity with the New York fanbase and Bethpage Black, made him an ideal candidate. Bradley’s enthusiasm for the Ryder Cup was a decisive factor in his selection.
Bradley is determined to lead the US team to victory and is prepared to do whatever it takes, including attending LIV events, to ensure he has the best players on his team.
