Max Homa is looking forward to some quality family time after an underwhelming performance at the US Open. The 33-year-old golfer missed the cut at Pinehurst, finishing with a second-round score of 75, totaling six-over-par, which sent him home early.
Currently one of the top players without a major win, Homa had a promising T3 finish at The Masters in April but followed it with a disappointing T35 at the PGA Championship last month. His struggles continued at Pinehurst, and now he will have to wait until next month’s Open at Royal Troon for another shot at a major title.
Despite his lackluster showing, Homa remains positive. He praised the 2024 US Open venue, calling it his new favorite course, and expressed eagerness to spend some extra time with his family over the weekend. “Sucks missing the cut. Pinehurst may be my favorite course I’ve ever played,” Homa shared on social media. “On the bright side my wife is still a rocket, my son is cool as hell, and I get another chance next week.” Homa will be competing in the Travelers Championship next week.
Homa’s playing partner for the first two rounds, Bryson DeChambeau, had a contrasting experience. DeChambeau, just one shot behind leader Ludvig Aberg heading into Saturday’s third round, posted scores of 67 and 69 over the opening two days and has been winning over fans. Reflecting on his performance and the crowd, DeChambeau said, “They’re awesome [the fans]. They’ve been super nice to me, and it’s fun feeding off that energy. I love it.”
He continued, “I’ve learned a lot about myself, not just as a golfer but as a person – how can I be more entertaining and give the fans what they deserve? I’m excited for the game that I have right now. I feel pretty confident and ready to get after it this weekend.”
While DeChambeau is focused on contending for the US Open title, Homa is looking forward to regrouping and coming back stronger for his next challenge.
