World No.1 Nelly Korda Withdraws from LPGA Tour Events Due to Neck Injury
Nelly Korda, the current World No.1 in women’s golf, has announced that she will be sidelined for the next two weeks of the LPGA Tour due to a neck injury. The 26-year-old golf star took to her social media platforms to confirm her withdrawal from the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea and the LPGA Maybank Championship in Malaysia, a setback she described as disappointing.
Korda has been enjoying a stellar 2024 season, securing six victories in just seven LPGA Tour events earlier this year. Her remarkable run was highlighted by her second career major title, which she captured at the Chevron Championship in April. When she secured her sixth win of the season at the Mizuho Americas Open, marking her 14th career victory on the LPGA Tour, Korda joined an elite group of women golfers. She became the fourth player in history to win six or more times in a season before the end of May, and the second to achieve this feat in the last 70 years.
In addition to these accolades, Korda also became the third American woman since 1980 to claim six or more victories in a single LPGA Tour season. The last American to accomplish this was Beth Daniel, who won seven times in 1990. Furthermore, Korda contributed significantly to Team USA’s victory in the 2024 Solheim Cup. Under the captaincy of Stacy Lewis, Korda helped the U.S. team reclaim the trophy for the first time since 2017, winning three out of her four matches in the biennial competition.
Despite a slight dip in her form in recent months, Korda still maintains a commanding lead in the Race to CME Globe rankings, thanks to her phenomenal early season success. She also holds a nearly five-point advantage over her closest competitor, Lilia Vu, in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
However, the recent neck injury has forced Korda to put her immediate plans on hold. On October 14, 2024, she posted a message to her fans, explaining the situation and apologizing for her absence in the upcoming LPGA events. Korda wrote:
“Hey everyone, I wanted to share an update regarding my upcoming schedule. Unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from the LPGA events in Korea and Malaysia due to a minor neck injury I sustained while practicing. I’m disappointed to miss these events and am especially sorry to my fans who were looking forward to seeing me play. I’m currently resting and working with my team to get better. Thank you for all your support—it truly means the world to me!”
This is the second time this year that Korda has had to step away from the sport due to an unforeseen issue. In June, she was forced to withdraw from the Aramco Team Series in London after being bitten by a dog.
Despite this latest setback, Korda remains optimistic about her return to competition. She is focusing on recovering and preparing for the season’s final stretch, which includes the prestigious CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida. Winning this event would cap off what has already been a historic year for Korda, and she will undoubtedly be determined to make a strong comeback.
As she takes time to heal and prepare, her fans and the wider golf community will eagerly await her return to the course. For now, Korda’s focus is on rest, recovery, and ensuring she is in peak form for the season’s grand finale.
