American sprinter Noah Lyles clinched his first Olympic gold medal in the men’s 100-meter final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old world No. 1 sprinter finished with a time of 9.87 seconds on Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Stade de France.
Lyles’ victory was narrowly secured, with Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson taking the silver medal with a time of 9.88 seconds, and fellow Team USA runner Fred Kerley claiming the bronze with a time of 9.89 seconds.
This triumph marks the first time Team USA has won gold in the men’s 100-meter event since the Athens Games in 2004. Lyles previously earned a bronze medal in the 200-meter final at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. To celebrate his first Olympic gold, Lyles proudly raised his racing bib in the air, displaying his last name to the cheering crowd.
The men’s 100-meter final took place approximately two hours after the semifinals, where Lyles finished in second place behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville and just ahead of Louie Hinchcliffe of Great Britain.
American Kenneth Bednarek also competed in the final alongside Lyles and Kerley, finishing seventh with a time of 10.03 seconds.
