Karol Drzewiecki and Piotr Matuszewski recorded their first joint performance this season. Poles showed that despite the break, their cooperation still functions very well. They reached the final of the Challenger rank in Lille, in which they had to recognize the Swiss-Dutch superiority of the couple Jakub Paul / David Pel.
Now the Polish double decided to participate in the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille. In the opening match, our duo hit on rivals set up with the “three”, Dutchman Sander Arends and British Luke Johnson. The beginning of this meeting was not successful for Drzewiecki and Matuszewski, who already in the second game gave themselves a break and allowed the opponents to escape at 3-0.
Although in the fourth game, the Poles stopped a series of Dutch-British duo and defended the service, it was only a momentary glid. Arends and Johnson quickly regained control of the court and won three more games. They recorded a second break and after less than 20 minutes of the game they won 6-1.
Artur Siwe is a legend today. “I grew up in a block of flats.”
The second set was completely different. Although the rivals have already openly developed a break point, our tennis players have not been broken. Subsequent emags also fell on the hands of the givers, although Poles had to defend themselves against the loss of the site three times. The even game made the fate of this set decided by the tie-break.
The issue of promotion to the quarter-finals of the double struggle in Marseille was therefore decided by super tie-break. The competition in this game from the beginning was fierce and both debles won points with their own application. A total of 32 actions were held.
The decisive small break at the last point was recorded by Drzewiecki and Matuszewski, who defended four match balls and won 17-15. The Poles thus won the premiere victory in the main cycle of the ATP. The French duo Benjamin Bonzi/Peong-Hugues Herbert will face a place in the semi-finals.
