The Green Bay Packers re-signed wide receiver Bo Melton and running back James Robinson to the practice squad on Wednesday. Both players were promoted to the 53-man roster last week, played in the Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions, and were subsequently released on Monday.
Bo Melton, now in his second season with the Packers, spent the first 11 weeks on the practice squad. Against the Lions, he played two snaps on offense and six on special teams. Robinson, signed in October for running back depth, was active but did not play a snap in the same game.
Melton is set to continue as the team’s No. 7 wide receiver, while Robinson serves as an emergency option behind the injured Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon.
The roster moves were prompted by the Packers’ challenging injury situation leading into Week 12. Limited to elevating only two players from the practice squad, the team, facing multiple position shortages, had to sign Melton and Robinson to the active roster. Tight end/fullback Henry Pearson and safety Benny Sapp III were also elevated.
Following Melton and Robinson’s release on Monday, the Packers still have two open spots on the 53-man roster. These spots are expected to be filled by safety Darnell Savage and cornerback Eric Stokes, who need to be officially activated from injured reserve.
