Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain, according to NFL Network. This diagnosis is relatively positive, as no ACL damage was reported, and it is expected that Love’s season will not be cut short. He suffered the injury to his lower left leg during the final moments of Friday night’s 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil.
Initial tests revealed that Love’s ACL remains intact. Following the game, Coach Matt LaFleur was unable to provide specific details about Love’s condition, responding with “I don’t know” when asked.
Love, 25, had just completed a 33-yard pass to Jayden Reed while attempting to mount a comeback when he was hit by Eagles defenders Josh Sweat and Jalen Carter, causing him to twist his leg as he fell.
Backup Malik Willis, who was acquired from the Tennessee Titans last week, took over for Love but was unable to advance the ball, resulting in an incompletion and a sack on the final play.
Love, who signed a four-year, $220 million contract in late July, ended the game with 260 yards, completing 17 of 34 passes with two touchdowns and one interception.
“That’s the franchise right there,” said Green Bay defensive tackle Kenny Clark after the game. “Hopefully, he can be back next week and be okay.”
The Packers are scheduled to host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, September 15.
