“Packers Top Cowboys in Wild-Card Upset: 48-32

Posted on January 15, 2024

In a stunning wild-card upset, Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers emerged victorious against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. Aaron Jones, with three rushing touchdowns, paid homage to his late father’s love for the Cowboys, making the win particularly special. Darnell Savage’s 64-yard interception return added to the Packers’ 48-32 triumph, marking the Cowboys’ first home loss since 2022.

Despite the Cowboys’ 16-game home winning streak, Green Bay now advances to face top-seeded San Francisco in the divisional round. Prescott struggled with two interceptions, contributing to the Cowboys’ first home playoff loss in three postseasons under coach Mike McCarthy, raising questions about the team’s future direction.

The defeat leaves Dallas as the first team in NFL history to win at least 12 games in three consecutive playoff seasons without reaching a conference title game. The Cowboys, who clinched the NFC East title in the final weeks, now face an uncertain offseason after missing opportunities for multiple home playoff games.

Reflecting on the victory, Love expressed the team’s determination to dominate, disregarding skeptics who had counted them out. The Packers, finishing the regular season 6-2, showcased an impressive offensive display with six touchdowns in their highest-scoring game since 2014.

Romeo Doubs, recovering from a chest injury, recorded a career-high 151 yards receiving. Love’s 272 yards passing, along with contributions from Doubs, Luke Musgrave, and Dontayvion Wicks, propelled the Packers to a convincing win. Jones, a standout in his hometown of El Paso, rushed for 118 yards, extending his impressive record against the Cowboys with nine touchdowns in four career games.

The Packers, undefeated in six visits to AT&T Stadium, including a Super Bowl victory in 2010, left little doubt in their 48-32 triumph over the Cowboys. The victory showcased the team’s growth under coach Matt LaFleur since he took over in 2019.

Prescott’s struggles, Savage’s crucial interception, and the Packers’ offensive prowess marked a memorable wild-card stunner, setting the stage for Green Bay’s showdown with San Francisco in the divisional round. The Cowboys, on the other hand, face a period of introspection and uncertainty as they head into the offseason.
