Paige Spiranac has accused NBC analyst Brandel Chamblee of harboring “hatred” for Bryson DeChambeau following DeChambeau’s US Open triumph.
DeChambeau secured the second Major victory of his career in North Carolina on Sunday, capitalizing on Rory McIlroy’s significant collapse to lead the field at Pinehurst. Spiranac, a golf influencer, took issue with Chamblee’s comment that DeChambeau was “fortunate” to win the US Open. She expressed her discontent on X, saying, “Brandel saying ‘good fortune’ is why Bryson won the US Open is wild. Doesn’t even try to hide his hatred for him. Smh (Shakes my head).”
DeChambeau, taking advantage of McIlroy’s faltering, displayed exceptional skill, especially with a remarkable shot from the bunker on the 18th hole, ultimately securing his victory. Later, DeChambeau joined Chamblee and NBC for an interview about his major win. Despite a moment where DeChambeau joked about the state of his irons, the interview appeared to be conducted in a generally positive manner.
However, Spiranac was not alone in her critique of Chamblee. One fan echoed her sentiments on X, writing, “Brandel Chamblee hates Bryson DeChambeau. It’s beyond unprofessional. I pray an NBC producer gets in his ear and says, ‘you know you’re making it obvious, right?'” Another fan added, “Get Brandel Chamblee off the broadcast just ripping Bryson apart every chance he gets.”
The tension between Chamblee and DeChambeau isn’t new. Chamblee, a vocal critic of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour, which DeChambeau participates in, has previously targeted DeChambeau. In 2022, referring to the reported $100 million that DeChambeau received to join LIV, Chamblee questioned DeChambeau’s integrity. He said, “More recently, he’s [DeChambeau] been talking about how he’s found God and become a Christian and I just wonder how he squares accepting money from a regime that is anti-Christian. You can’t pull a Bible out in Riyadh without going to jail. They are misogynistic, they are anti-Semitic, there’s no freedom of speech. He talks about his charities, about going home to do things, but meanwhile he’s taking money from people who oppress the things he purports to stand for, which is philanthropic enterprises. That’s where the money is coming from.”
