Former Presidents Cup vice-captain Tony Johnstone has sparked controversy by urging the PGA Tour to penalize Patrick Cantlay for a breach of golf etiquette during the Genesis Invitational. Cantlay, currently leading the tournament after an impressive first round at Riviera Country Club, faced criticism from Johnstone for failing to shout “fore” after two errant shots on the 18th hole.

Despite Cantlay’s stellar performance with a seven-under-par 64, Johnstone took issue with his apparent disregard for the traditional practice of warning others of impending danger on the course. Rumors circulated regarding Cantlay’s behavior in Team USA’s locker room during the event in Rome, with reports alleging his dissatisfaction over compensation for representing his country.
