Golfer Phil Mickelson announced on December 19 that Andy Ogletree will be joining his HyFlyers team for the 2024 LIV Golf season. Mickelson shared the news via a video on X, extending a warm welcome to the former U.S. Amateur champion. The HyFlyers team also includes Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale. Previously, they had U.S. Amateur champion James Piot on their roster, but he was relegated.
Ogletree secured his spot in the Saudi-backed league by excelling on the Asian Tour, winning the International Series’ order of merit at 25. He clinched victories in Oman and England, along with five top-10 finishes. Ogletree played in the inaugural LIV Golf event at Centurion Club last June, finishing with criticism for a 24-over par total.
Reflecting on the backlash, Ogletree expressed the toll it took on him, receiving hateful messages daily. Despite the negativity, he explained that he had participated in the first LIV event out of necessity, as he had no other playing options.
Looking ahead, Ogletree remains open to various golfing opportunities, expressing his desire to play on the PGA Tour, the LIV Tour, or any venue where he can pursue his passion for golf.
