For the first time in program history, the Hofstra men’s golf team played at the renowned Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, NY, during the final round of the Doc Gimmler tournament hosted by St. John’s. This marked the first time since 1996 that St. John’s competed on the 7,468-yard course, known for its beauty and difficulty.
Gavin Clarke led Hofstra to a 12th-place team finish at the event on Tuesday. LIU secured first place with a three-round score of 859 (+15), while St. John’s finished just five strokes behind.
Clarke tied for 42nd overall, posting a score of 224 (+13) after rounds of 75, a career-low 68 (-2), and 81. Eugene Kang finished one stroke behind, tying for 46th. Freshmen Charlie Ferrise and Jacob Vazquez tied for 55th place in the 69-player field with a score of 230 (+19). Taishi Shigaki, competing individually, placed 68th with rounds of 72, 78, and 88, while Joseph Giamanco rounded out the team in 69th place.
Hofstra will return to action on Saturday, September 21, at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate, held at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Berlin, Connecticut.
