Punching Winter Olympics Ticket, Madison Chock and Evan Bates’ Share First Words on Historic Three-Peat Figure Skating Title

28 years. That’s how long the sport of figure skating waited for a feat that just recently happened. And the stars behind this? Madison Chock and Evan Bates: America’s most celebrated ice skaters at this point. Yes, the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025 are on, and these two gave America a reason to be proud. Well, Madison Chock and Bates won both Friday’s rhythm dance and Saturday’s free dance events, taking their score to an unbeatable 222.06. As a result, they won the title again, for the third time straight. This makes the the first figure skating duo from America to complete a world championships three-peat (2022-2025). How incredible is that? We know getting this is extremely difficult in a sport where athletes are backing out even in their teens.

But thanks to this feat, Madison Chock and Eva Bates are the first ice dancers to win three world titles in a row after the Russian duo Oksana Grishuk and Evgeni Platov won four between 1994-97. And their reaction? Well, obviously they were elated. Chock said in the post-event press conference, “It means beyond words I can’t really describe it, but I’m just so grateful for the performance and the home crowd and the moment at the end. It feels a 100% better than last time.”

Yes, the competition, housed in Boston this time, is indeed a special aspect for them. Thus, Madison Chock further added, “I am just elated. It was unbelievable. It almost felt unreal and the performance went by so quickly. I felt like we really just like flowed through everything with ease and flow and just so present for each moment. It was really special to feel that and share that with Evan and the audience and then have that home crowd standing ovation at the end is unbelievable.”

Well, this win certainly means big things for both Madison Chock and Bates. First, it means redemption. The duo was thrashed twice this season — first time at October’s Skate America and then at February’s Four Continents Championships in Seoul. Also, this means another attempt at that glorious Olympics title, which now is the only thing that probably lacks in their resume.

However, they are still bidding for the 2026 Olympics, knowing that that’s probably the only thing that lacks on their resume to date. Here’s what Bates just said about that. “I would say never say never (about competing beyond 2026), but at this point we’re putting all of our chips on the table for next season,” Bates said prior to the worlds. He also added, “We have been so focused on just absolutely maximizing our potential for Boston, for the next 12 months. We’re going to treat it like it’s our last shot.”
