Jon Rahm is a leading contender for the 2024 LIV Golf UK title, entering the final round just three shots off the lead. However, his journey has not been without controversy. On day two, Rahm appeared uncomfortable and had a contentious interaction with the fans.
The incident occurred on the 16th hole, where Rahm made angry gestures at the noisy crowd and gave a disapproving look to a fan. This behavior sparked reactions on X (formerly Twitter).
One user posted, “Rahm HATES LIV,” while another commented, “He’s so unlikable.” Other reactions included, “Jon Rahm’s career ended when he left the PGA,” and “I thought they like the loud boisterous rowdy crowds loud music etc? #Irony.” Another user remarked, “I don’t understand. Isn’t LIV promoted to the Happy Gilmore bottle-rocket firing, Boombox music crowd? You get what you’re paid for.”
LIV Golf is known for its louder, more boisterous atmosphere, often described as “Golf, but louder.” This isn’t Rahm’s first clash with the LIV Golf ambiance; in June 2024, he reacted angrily to the noise from a drone at the Nashville event.
**Rahm’s LIV Golf UK Performance**
Rahm started strong at LIV Golf UK, matching his best 18-hole score on the circuit with an eight-under 63, featuring eight birdies and no bogeys, to take the tournament lead. However, his second round was less stellar, with four birdies and three bogeys, dropping him three spots on the leaderboard. He now trails 36-hole leader Andy Ogletree by three shots, with Tyrrell Hatton and Cameron Smith tied for second.
In the team event, Rahm’s Legion XIII is tied for first place with Smash GC at 21 under. Rahm and Hatton’s excellent scores, combined with those of Kieran Vincent and Caleb Surrat, have kept them in the lead.
Rahm seeks his first LIV Golf victory, having secured three third-place finishes and consistently placing in the top 10 in his nine previous starts. He is currently second on the season’s individual leaderboard. Legion XIII has won three events in 2024, placing them second in the season standings.
