Robert MacIntyre is thrilled to be “back home” as he sets his sights on winning the Scottish Open after an already successful year.
The golfer secured the Canadian Open title last month and is now focused on triumphing at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. Having missed victory by just one shot to Rory McIlroy last year, the 27-year-old from Oban is eager for a Scottish win, calling it the one he “really wants.”
Despite having a base in Florida and being a member of the Isleworth Golf Club, MacIntyre revealed his intention to spend more time in Scotland, where he feels grounded and appreciated as “one of the boys.”
“It’s great to be home and back in Scotland, whether it’s a trip back or landing here, but playing at home is always special,” MacIntyre said on Wednesday. “Hopefully, the bad weather is behind us, and I’m looking forward to the next two weeks.”
MacIntyre described feeling more composed this year, despite the ups and downs of his golfing career. “This has probably been the calmest I’ve been coming into it,” he noted. “My game has been inconsistent, but this is the one, as a Scot, that I really want.”
Reflecting on his near-win last year, MacIntyre emphasized the significance of the opportunity. “I might not get another chance like that in my career, so I’ve just got to try and play it like any other event and give it my absolute best.”
When in Oban, MacIntyre often takes a break from golf, enjoying time with friends and family who keep him grounded. “I’m treated as Bob and one of the boys,” he explained. “I don’t get put on a pedestal, and that’s the way it should be.”
Looking ahead, MacIntyre shared his plans to end his Florida rental. “My rent is up on August 30, and I don’t think it will be renewed. Scotland is my home. Isleworth will remain a winter practice spot, but America is not my home—Scotland is where I want to be.”
