Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre clinched his first PGA Tour title at the RBC Canadian Open, overcoming a challenging start to secure victory with a final round of 68 at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. MacIntyre finished 16 under par, narrowly beating home favourite Ben Griffin by one stroke.
Griffin, applying intense pressure with birdies on the 15th, 16th, and 17th holes, fell just short as he couldn’t birdie the last hole to force a playoff. This allowed MacIntyre to comfortably two-putt from 10 feet for the win. The emotional victory was shared with his father Dougie, who had stepped in as caddie at short notice. MacIntyre expressed his overwhelming joy to CBS, attributing the win to the support of his father and family.
Starting the day with a four-shot lead, MacIntyre faced an early setback with a bogey on the first hole, while Mackenzie Hughes made three quick birdies. MacIntyre regained control with birdies on the fourth, seventh, and eighth holes. Despite a bogey on the 13th following a wayward tee shot into a water hazard, he solidified his lead with a birdie on the 15th and safely parred the last three holes.
MacIntyre has struggled to adjust to life in the United States but found renewed confidence after a three-week return to Scotland in April. His improved form was evident with a strong performance at the Myrtle Beach Classic and a top-10 finish at the US PGA Championship.
