Rory McIlroy’s upcoming made-for-TV match, where he will team up with Scottie Scheffler to face Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, reportedly stems from his frustration over the lack of significant progress between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s backers. According to *Sports Illustrated*, McIlroy is eager to see the world’s top golfers competing together again and is taking matters into his own hands to make it happen.
The report suggests that McIlroy is determined to push for unity in men’s golf, and he “will dare anybody to stop him.” McIlroy and his supporters are reportedly advocating for a deal with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to bring all of men’s golf under the PGA Tour’s umbrella.
While the PGA Tour has declined to comment on this event, details of the match were first revealed in a Golfweek report earlier this week. The showdown, scheduled for mid-December in Las Vegas, will be broadcast on TNT, which has previously aired nine editions of “The Match,” beginning with the 2018 contest between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
McIlroy has described this upcoming event as a “goodwill event” designed to “bring the best together again.”
