Rory McIlroy, once a prominent figure on the PGA Tour’s sub-transaction committee during its negotiations with LIV Golf and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, has revealed he is currently out of touch with the latest developments regarding their merger talks. This disclosure comes in the wake of the surprising news that, following 14 months of negotiations, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf had reached an agreement to merge, a move intended to resolve their ongoing disputes.
Initially, many PGA Tour players, including McIlroy, were taken aback by the sudden merger announcement. McIlroy, who had been a vocal critic of LIV Golf, was among the high-profile golfers who later joined a committee to assist in the complex integration of the two tours.
