Rory McIlroy is currently at Le Golf National near Paris, preparing to represent Ireland in the upcoming Olympic golf tournament starting on Thursday. McIlroy, who has been practicing at the venue for the past few days, noted the difference in the rough’s length compared to the 2018 Ryder Cup held at the same location.
When asked about it on Tuesday, McIlroy humorously responded, “Ask the Americans. I wasn’t in [the rough] much that week,” referencing Team Europe’s 17.5 to 10.5 victory over Team USA.
McIlroy aims to secure a medal for Ireland after a challenging major championship season. He came close to ending his 10-year major title drought with a runner-up finish at the U.S. Open.
Although he missed the cut at The Open Championship earlier in July, McIlroy has been in good form in 2024. He, along with fellow Irish golfer Shane Lowry, hopes to capture a medal in Paris this weekend.
