The season’s final major is two weeks away, and many top players will head to Scotland early for the Genesis Scottish Open. Since 1987, this event has been the last chance to qualify for the British Open, with 156 players competing for the $1,620,000 first prize from a $9 million purse.
Headlining the event is defending champion Rory McIlroy. He recently had a heartbreaking finish at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, where he missed two short putts in the final three holes, finishing second by one shot to Bryson DeChambeau. This was his closest attempt to end a decade-long major drought. Currently ranked world No. 2, McIlroy is expected to address the media before play begins at The Renaissance Club.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will not participate this week, as he is taking an additional week off before aiming to add a Claret Jug to his Masters title. The only other top-10 player not competing is Patrick Cantlay, who withdrew from the John Deere Classic with an injury.
The Genesis Scottish Open has been held at the Tom Doak-designed Renaissance Club since 2019. This links course plays to a par-70 over 7,237 yards. Co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour, the tournament features a mix of players from tours on both sides of the Atlantic.
