Scottie Scheffler solidified his position as the top golfer in the world by clinching his second Masters victory on Sunday. However, with the impending arrival of his first child, Scheffler admitted that golf will take a back seat to family.
Despite this shift in priorities, Scheffler assured his competitors that he won’t be neglecting his game. He emphasized his love for competition and expressed his intention to return to the course after taking some time for diaper duty.
“While I’ll cherish this victory and relish the birth of my first child, I still have a passion for competing,” Scheffler stated. “However, my focus will soon shift to my growing family, placing golf at a lower priority.”
The 27-year-old’s recent win at Augusta National adds to his impressive streak, with three titles and a runner-up finish in his last four PGA Tour starts. His achievement in claiming both the Green Jacket and the Players Championship in the same year hasn’t been seen since Tiger Woods accomplished it, further cementing Scheffler’s status among golf’s elite.
Despite the added pressure of potentially having to rush home during the tournament, Scheffler remained focused on the task at hand. His victory was all the more remarkable given the distraction of awaiting news of his wife’s labor.
“In my mind, my priority is getting home,” Scheffler revealed. “I’m not thinking about the tournament or the Green Jacket; I’m solely focused on being with my family.”
As he basks in the glow of his latest triumph, Scheffler acknowledged the innate desire for more success but emphasized the importance of appreciating the present moment.
