Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, are capturing attention as they eagerly await the arrival of their first child. The two-time major champion, fresh off his recent Masters victory, will be absent from this week’s Wells Fargo Championship as he gears up for the upcoming PGA Championship, the second major of the year, scheduled later this month.
Despite his impending fatherhood, Scheffler remains listed in the PGA Championship field, maintaining his position as the world’s current No. 1 golfer. Last year’s PGA Championship saw him secure a commendable tie for second place, with Brooks Koepka seizing the top spot, claiming his fifth major win.
The anticipation surrounding the Scheffler family’s baby watch began to unfold during the Masters in April, with reports indicating that the 27-year-old golfer would depart Augusta National promptly if Meredith went into labor. Speaking after a strong opening round, Scheffler assured reporters of his readiness to act at a moment’s notice, underscoring the importance of open communication with his wife during this pivotal time.
Reflecting on their readiness for parenthood, Scheffler candidly admitted to feeling somewhat underprepared, citing unfinished nursery arrangements and recent household challenges. Despite these uncertainties, the couple embraces the excitement of impending parenthood.
Following his triumphant second Masters win, Scheffler conveyed a heartfelt message to Meredith, expressing his love and commitment to returning home promptly after the tournament. Meredith, who married Scheffler in 2020, has been a steadfast supporter throughout his golfing journey, notably present during his first Masters victory in 2022 and his recent triumph at the Player’s Championship in March.
Although Scheffler is sitting out of the Wells Fargo Championship, he remains dedicated to honing his skills. Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine reported his continued practice regimen at Maridoe GC in Carrollton, Texas, where he engaged in a round with former Dallas Cowboys quarterback turned CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo.
The stage is set for the 2024 PGA Championship, scheduled from May 16-19 at Valhalla Golf Club, where Scheffler aims to further solidify his status as a dominant force in the world of golf.
