Scottie Scheffler’s caddie, Ted Scott, showed remarkable determination at Royal Troon on Friday, despite battling a severe stomach illness. Scott’s struggle was evident throughout Scheffler’s second round at The Open Championship, yet he persevered, assisting the World No. 1 golfer in achieving a 1-under 70.
After the round, Scheffler praised his caddie, calling him a “fighter.” “He’s a fighter,” Scheffler said. “He did a good job today and battled through it.”
Social media was abuzz with photos of Scott lying down on the course between holes, highlighting his struggle. Scheffler noted, “He seemed to feel better as the day went on. The doc here took good care of him. But he did not sleep very much last night, apparently.”
Scheffler admitted they were uncertain if Scott would be able to carry on in the morning, but his caddie pushed through. “You saw him laying down probably quite a bit out there, which was pretty funny,” Scheffler added.
Heading into the weekend, Scheffler is tied for fourth at 2-under, trailing tournament leader Shane Lowry by five strokes.
