On Thursday night, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump shared the CNN stage for their first public debate since 2020. The two likely candidates for the 2024 presidential election discussed a wide range of issues, some serious and others less so.
In a particularly unexpected turn, the debate veered into a discussion about their golf prowess. Trump boasted about recently winning two club championships, while Biden proudly mentioned that he once had a handicap of six.
Amid this lighthearted exchange, social media erupted with humorous comments about World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler. One user quipped, “If all it takes to be president is to play golf, I nominate Scottie Scheffler.” Another added, “Based on what I’m hearing, Scottie Scheffler should be our next president.” Others joked about how Scheffler would have easily dominated the debate.
While golfing talent is clearly not a criterion for presidential leadership, if it were, Scheffler would certainly stand out. He already boasts six PGA Tour victories this season, including a recent playoff win over Tom Kim at the Travelers Championship.
