Scottie Scheffler achieved a significant milestone at the TPC River Highlands on Sunday by winning the Travelers Championship in a playoff against Tom Kim. This victory marked his sixth win of the season, a feat only five other players in PGA Tour history have accomplished before July. Notably, this exclusive group doesn’t include legendary golfers Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus. The previous players who achieved this are Jimmy DeMaret in 1940, Byron Nelson in 1945, Ben Hogan in 1946, Sam Snead in 1950, and Arnold Palmer, who did it twice in 1960 and 1962.
Scheffler’s impressive streak includes wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, the Masters Tournament, the RBC Heritage, and the Memorial Tournament before his triumph at the Travelers Championship. This makes him only the fourth player in the last 40 years to win at least six PGA Tour events in a single season. The others are Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh, who both won nine times in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and Nick Price, who won six times in 1994. Tiger Woods also had seasons with eight wins in 1999 and 2006, seven wins in 2007, and six wins in 2005 and 2009.
