Scottie Scheffler, the current World No.1 in golf, has yet to confirm his participation in the upcoming Wells Fargo Championship as he awaits the arrival of his first child with his wife, Meredith. Despite his incredible success this season, winning four of his last five tournaments, including prestigious titles like The Players Championship and The Masters, Scheffler’s focus is understandably on his growing family.
After securing a three-shot victory at the RBC Heritage, Scheffler has opted to skip the last few weeks of competition, prioritizing his family commitments. With the Wells Fargo Championship just around the corner and the PGA Championship following shortly after, Scheffler faces a challenging decision if his child’s birth coincides with these tournaments.
Although the due date remains undisclosed, Scheffler has made it clear that he will withdraw from any tournament immediately to be by his wife’s side during labor. “You only have your first child once, so I would rather be at home if that is going to happen,” he emphasized during the Masters last month.
As Scheffler awaits the arrival of his bundle of joy, attention turns to other contenders at the Wells Fargo Championship. Last year’s champion, Wyndham Clark, will aim to defend his title, having previously followed up his victory with a maiden Major win at the US Open.
While the final lineup for the Wells Fargo event is pending the conclusion of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, all eligible players have committed to what promises to be an exciting tournament, boasting a staggering $20 million purse. Scheffler’s potential absence, however, leaves the competition wide open for other contenders to seize the spotlight.
