Scottie Scheffler, currently the world No. 1, remains focused on taking each tournament as it comes, despite a remarkable season filled with victories. Speaking ahead of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, Scheffler emphasized that his five wins this year, including his recent triumph at the Memorial Tournament and a second Masters title, won’t affect his performance this week.
Scheffler, 27, explained his mindset during a press conference in Pinehurst, N.C. “I try not to dwell on the past or worry too much about the future. Staying present is key for me,” he said. Reflecting on his win at the Memorial Tournament, Scheffler noted how his focus quickly shifted to preparing for the next challenge. “I was excited for a brief moment, but then it was all about moving on to what’s next,” he added.
When asked if he sought advice from other golfers who had experienced similar success streaks, such as Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas, Scheffler stated, “I’m not dwelling on my previous victories. My attention is solely on this week and getting ready to compete. Past wins don’t provide any advantage for the current tournament. Everyone starts at even par, so last week’s results don’t matter.”
Scheffler’s history at the U.S. Open includes a near win in 2022, where he tied for second in Brookline, Mass., and a third-place finish at the 2023 U.S. Open in Los Angeles, where he was three shots behind the winner, Wyndham Clark.
Despite facing significant personal and professional distractions, including a legal issue at the PGA Championship (where charges were later dropped) and the birth of his son, Bennett, Scheffler has managed to maintain his focus. He shared his approach to balancing life on and off the golf course: “At home, I strive to be the best husband and father, and on the course, the best golfer I can be. I aim to give my best in everything, whether it’s training, practicing, or spending time with my family and friends.”
Scheffler concluded with a reflection on his approach to life and golf: “I try not to overthink and just live in the moment, enjoying the good times and persevering through the challenges. You never know how long these moments will last, so I aim to cherish them fully.”
