Scottie Scheffler’s Caddie Earns More Than Tiger Woods and 220 Golf Stars
Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 season has been nothing short of remarkable, culminating in his victory at the FedEx Cup. This triumph not only solidified Scheffler’s status as one of golf’s elite but also resulted in significant financial gains for his caddie, Ted Scott, whose earnings now surpass those of many professional golfers, including the legendary Tiger Woods.
Scheffler’s performance over the past nine months has been historic. The 28-year-old American golfer secured his first season-long championship by winning the Tour Championship with a final round of 4-under-67, beating Collin Morikawa by four strokes. This victory earned him the FedEx Cup and its staggering $25 million prize, the richest in golf.
Scheffler’s 2024 season will be remembered for its record-breaking achievements. He won eight tournaments, matching Tiger Woods’ extraordinary 2006 season. His victories included prestigious titles such as The Masters, The Players Championship, an Olympic gold medal, and the Tour Championship. Scheffler’s seven PGA Tour titles are the most by any golfer in a calendar year since Woods achieved the same feat in 2007.
One of the major beneficiaries of Scheffler’s success is his caddie, Ted Scott. If Scheffler follows the traditional caddie compensation structure—where a caddie earns 10% of the winnings for victories, 7% for top-10 finishes, and 5% for all other placements—Scott stands to make nearly £4 million ($4.9 million) this year. This would place Scott 19th on the list of top earners in golf for 2024, surpassing even Tiger Woods.
To put this into perspective, Scott’s earnings would exceed those of several well-known golfers, including Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Will Zalatoris, and Justin Thomas. In fact, around 220 professional golfers would rank below Scott on the PGA Tour’s money leaderboard if his earnings were included.
Scheffler’s extraordinary season also underscores his remarkable earnings on a per-shot basis. On average, he earned around £9,000 ($11,000) for every shot he played throughout the year. Reflecting on his long-awaited victory at the Tour Championship, Scheffler expressed his satisfaction after years of coming close but falling short.
“It’s a pretty special feeling to be finally holding the trophy,” Scheffler said. “I’ve been the Player of the Year for the tour the last two years, and I haven’t left with this trophy. It definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth at the end of the year, especially when I start with the lead. I feel like I’ve lived almost a full lifetime in this one year. It’s been nuts.”
Scheffler’s success, coupled with the financial windfall for his caddie, has made 2024 a year to remember in the world of golf.
