Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith Scheffler, have had a remarkable year. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Bennett, on May 13, 2024. Announcing the joyful news on Instagram, Scottie shared, “Welcome to the world little one. Your mom & dad love you so much.”
As the year continues to unfold, Scottie is poised to add another achievement to what has already been an incredible year. He enters the final round of the Tour Championship with a commanding five-stroke lead, setting his sights on becoming this season’s PGA Tour champion. Despite his golfing success, Scottie has been candid about how becoming a father surpasses any professional accomplishment.
Reflecting on the experience of becoming a dad, Scottie expressed his awe at witnessing Meredith go through childbirth. “It’s just wild watching Meredith go through that,” he said in May, according to PGATour.com. “It’s just nuts. I don’t really know how to describe it, watching the little dude come out of Meredith, and we waited, and it was a surprise for us whether it was going to be a boy or girl, so being able to tell my wife that it was a boy, yeah, it was a wild ride.”
Scottie’s admiration for Meredith only grew during this time. “Extremely proud of Meredith after watching her go through that. It’s nuts. I’m glad it was her going through it and not me because I don’t know if I could have done it. It was pretty nuts. Extremely proud of her, and the look on her face right after birth, she was just glowing, so proud of herself and so excited to have our little boy. We’re very fortunate to be in this position with a healthy mom and a healthy baby.”
In July 2024, Meredith and baby Bennett joined Scottie in Paris as he competed in the Olympics. The family returned to the United States with a new gold medal, and Scottie shared photos on Instagram of their time in France. “Made it to Paris & Bennett loved the Louvre 😂 #parisolympics,” he captioned a July 28 post.
Scottie and Meredith call the Dallas-Fort Worth area home, where they both grew up. They are high school sweethearts, and Dallas has become their permanent home base. In a February 2022 interview with Golf Digest, Scottie talked about how his family adjusted to their move to Dallas. “When we moved to Dallas, it was pretty uncomfortable for my parents,” Scottie explained. “Basically uprooted their whole lives, everything they knew to come here where they didn’t really know anybody besides my mom’s boss. … Dallas became home pretty quickly for us as kids, and I couldn’t really imagine living anywhere else. All her family pretty much lives here. All my family pretty much lives here. So, Dallas is home for us.”
Earlier in 2024, Scottie made headlines when he revealed his plan to leave the Masters if Meredith went into labor during the tournament. Fortunately, Scottie was able to win his second green jacket, and Bennett arrived a few weeks later. Now, Scottie is looking to cap off an already amazing year with a victory at the Tour Championship.
